Taking time to write is about the hardest thing in my life right now. It has been for about 19 months. It’s a little frustrating, since the consistent career aspect I’ve maintained since college is writing in one form or another. News, fiction, blog posts, press releases, technical specs… you name it, I’ve written it.
It’s even a little painful coming back to the blog and realizing I’ve not managed to squeeze out a blog post since far too long. (I’m trying not to look back on it.) Sure, I’ve still been writing. I stick to my “Minimum 1k Rule” no matter what. It’s a life principle at this point, and as much habit as anything conscious.
But anything beyond 1k is difficult. I work far from home, and spend about 3 to 4 hours on the road daily. (How close to 3 versus how close to 4 depends on traffic, which is as fickle a beast as you could ever hope to meet.) And then when I get home, I have this munchkin who makes my world light up. I’ve got to spend some with her.
So, it’s been in bits and pieces. But I’m happy to say that I’ve been managing it. I’ve been getting it done again. And so I’m happy to say that I’ll be blogging more — maybe I’ll even resurrect that old Facebook page. The lights are back on. And when I say that, I don’t mean to say that “I’m going to be doing stuff.” I’m saying I’ve already done it. I walked before I talked, because I’ve talked before.
So, let’s see where this goes.
